Digital Print and Direct Mail: The Perfect Partnership

Full colour digital print and direct mail are a perfect partnership for multi-channel marketing campaigns, and are particularly effective for personalised self-mailers. Why use self-mailer? The Royal Mail published a research study that demonstrated how personalised mail was more likely to increase engagement and advocacy with brands, not to mention savings on postal costs.

Thinking of using a personalised self-mailer in your next campaign? We’ve created this short blog to demonstrate how simple, yet effective these marketing channels are to deploy.

A Quick Guide to Digital Print

What we need from the client:

- PDF artwork file of their A4_4pp direct mail piece
- Database of 4,500 contacts

We offer both graphic design and quality marketing data lists so if you need support throughout the creation of your campaign, we can fill in the gaps.

What happens next:

The brochure is printed on one of our state of the art Ricoh colour digital presses, enabling variable data printing, brochure print, mailing impression and address details to be added in one seamless pass. This is then endorse folded to A5, tab sealed to close the open edge and consigned to post.

How is it done?

We import the artwork file into our variable data software and generate an address block in a predefined area on the artwork. This address block is then linked to the data to enable variable data printing (VDP)

The press-ready PDF is then imported onto one of our Ricoh Digital Presses, containing all variables in client data. The press is prepped for the appropriate paper stocks (70gsm through to 400gsm) and printed onto a 160gsm SRA3 matt coated sheet before being 4 edge trimmed to A3 on our guillotine.

Next stop is our UFO folder, using a second fold attachment the sheets are fed in and folded at high speed to A4 and then endorsed to A5 in one pass.

Last stop is our tabbing machine which seals the foredge with a perforated sealing tab that keeps the DM piece sealed during the mailing process but is easy to open by the recipient.

This is a great way of sending direct mail particularly if your audience is International. No envelopes means the mailing weight is reduced and this transposes to significantly lower international postage costs

Did we mention all this takes less than 24hrs?
